Les Monts d'Olmes, the Cathar Pyrenees resort

A natural playground

Less than two hours from Toulouse, the Monts d’Olmes resort combines a family atmosphere with a sporting spirit, much to the delight of mountain lovers. At an altitude of 1,500 metres, on the northern slopes of the Massif de Tabe, it offers a beautiful natural playground. Home to champion skier Perrine Laffont, it has all the hallmarks of a great resort, but still retains its friendly atmosphere. Whether it’s the pleasure of skiing and hiking (cross-country skiing and snowshoeing) in winter, or hiking and mountain biking in summer, young and old alike come here for a breath of fresh air and nature, to play, let off steam and hurtle down the slopes in an unspoilt natural setting on a human scale. Inaugurated in 1968, it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018.

Family and sports resort

Created in the 20th century as a playground for snow sports enthusiasts, the Monts d’Olmes resort continues to delight families and young people alike. How many children have started out here on skis? How many young people from Toulouse have come here for a cheap weekend away? Because the Monts d’Olmes, in the Pyrenees, is a small, local resort with all the makings of a big one! On the slopes of the Tabe massif, at 1500 m, it’s a playground for skiers in winter and hikers and mountain bikers in summer. Well-equipped but on a human scale, it’s a delight for families and nature lovers alike.

Since the 1960s, all local children have taken their first steps on skis here, some of them achieving Olympic success (Perrine Laffont). You’ll meet locals and tourists alike, who come here to recharge their batteries and take a breath of nature, at the foot of Saint Barthélémy and a stone’s throw from its nature reserve.

Monts d'Olmes four seasons

Here, there are no performance freaks, just ski enthusiasts who enjoy themselves! From beginners to advanced skiers, there’s something for everyone. More than 20 km of pistes, 10 ski lifts and qualified ski instructors (ESF) are all you need to enjoy the pleasures of the snow.

In the Monts d’Olmes, you’ll come and come again, summer and winter alike: the dazzling scenery and the ever-changing natural spectacle.

And summer is also the time to hit the slopes: on mountain bikes and trail bikes, the difference in altitude will give you all the sensations you need to relieve stress and forget about everything.

As for lovers of beautiful walks and hikes, with snowshoes or skis in winter and good shoes in summer, they’ll find paths that lead to secret ponds and intoxicating summits!

Winter or summer

Each season has its own activity

Come whenever you like, there’s always something to do or experience. Nature is adorned with a thousand and one colors throughout the year, under the unwavering gaze of the peaks, giants of stone thousands of years old. Each season has its own charm! Here you’re far from the crowds. Take the time to relax and live the moment. A smile, a laugh shared together or with a stranger, a real moment in life… And who knows, maybe you’ll bump into Perrine Laffont?

History of a station

We've always loved skiing here!

From the 1930s onwards, skiing developed in the region, supported by the big bosses of the textile industry. Skiers found Moulzoune, on the slopes of the Montferrier talc quarry: two trails in the forest, a home-made ski lift and ash boards tied with a strap to the boots were the delight of snow enthusiasts.

But snowmaking at Moulzoune remains uncertain. The idea of creating a modern resort to rival Ax or Puymorens was born. The Monts d’Olmes resort was born, financed in large part by the textile barons of the Ariège.

A small town in the mountains, the Monts d’Olmes resort is in the tradition of the “integrated” resorts of the Alps, albeit on a more modest scale. The settlement is made up of individual chalets, with a few community facilities. Gradually modernized over time, the resort is now developing a range of activities to maintain its year-round appeal.
