Unmissable events

Let the party begin!

Some events have become veritable rendez-vous in the Cathar Pyrenees! Festivals, exceptional markets and flea markets are all opportunities to get together, share a moment and brighten up everyday life!

Mirepoix swing festival

Every year, during the Easter weekend, the medieval town of Mirepoix lives to the rhythm of Jazz and Swing under the covered market. Strolling musicians, swing dancers and big bands take to the stage over 4 days to get you swinging! The Place des couverts, with its refreshment stalls and craft market, is also the place to be in fine weather. In the evenings, 4 major shows are also on the program under the Halle, with exceptional, top-quality offerings! Don’t forget to book your tickets!

Flower market

The Place des couverts in the medieval town of Mirepoix fills up with all the colors of spring every year on May 8th. Various flower and plant producers from all over the region set up shop in the covered market and square to showcase and sell their creations. Don’t hesitate to come and stock up to brighten up your garden.

Bikes and roses

For the Rose Festival in Camon, a village listed as one of France’s most beautiful villages, on May 19, 2024, we’re inviting you to cycle to the event together on the voie verte! It’s a great opportunity for families to take part in the festival without cars or parking worries, and to (re)discover our lovely greenway, which links the Canal du Midi to Montségur and crosses our beautiful corner of Ariège, the Cathar Pyrenees. There will be several starting points for a safe, family-friendly and festive stroll along the greenway.

Flea market,

Bursaries for all collections

They need no introduction! Professional antique and second-hand dealers will be exhibiting over the 3 days of the Whitsun weekend. Rendezvous for bargain hunters and finders of rare, original and antique items on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Rendezvous for collectors of old papers, stamps, coins, books, records, postcards and objects on Sunday and Monday. A stroll around the square and under the covered market is a must, just for the pleasure of your eyes. A great weekend ahead!

MAMET

Les Fêtes Historiques!

In 1979, under the impetus of Paul Dardier, the merchants’ association organized the first edition of Mirepoix’s “Fêtes Historiques”. For over 40 years, on the third weekend in July, the medieval bastide has gone back in time to bring its past and history to life. Today, the Fêtes have been taken over by the MAMET association (Mirepoix Animation Mémoire et Tradition), with volunteers and professionals offering the public events, lectures, parades, shows, a craftsmen’s market… In addition to enlivening the village, the aim of the historical festivities is to draw attention to and raise awareness of Mirepoix’s heritage in a festive way, especially with the big costume parade on Sunday afternoon.

MIMA

Festival international de Marionnettes actuelles

Under the name MIMA (Mirepoix, marionnettes), the Fil en Trope association organizes a major international festival devoted to contemporary puppetry. Every year since 1988, on the 1st weekend of August, the medieval town of Mirepoix and the surrounding villages welcome shows for all ages and audiences over four days, from Thursday to Sunday. An “In” festival in different rooms of the town, exhibitions, workshops, professional encounters, concerts, a creators’ and restaurateurs’ market, and the famous “Off” festival with shows each more surprising than the last. A great atmosphere and daring artists at this cultural and festive event in the Cathar Pyrenees. The biggest event in the south of France, this festival attracts thousands of festival-goers, so come and join us!

Castel Artes Festival

Opera, Dance, Photos, Classical Concerts

Castel Artès is a cultural association, recognized as being of general interest, whose aim is to promote the development of the arts in the Pays de Mirepoix. It works to disseminate culture while promoting the local architectural heritage, through concerts, events, exhibitions, shows, etc. Every summer, Castel Artès organizes an eight-day International Lyric Festival, bringing together hundreds of spectators for musical evenings featuring top-flight professional artists. At the same time, a Singing Academy welcomes young singers in training. Performances take place mainly at the Château de Terride overlooking Mirepoix, but also at various heritage sites in the area.

Hazelnut Festival

Lavelanet takes its name from the word “Avellana” (“hazelnut” in Latin) given by the Romans to the many hazelnut trees found in the area. The idea of organizing a hazelnut festival many centuries later was born. The festival takes place at the Espace André Roudière and at the foirail, on the boulodrome, on the last weekend of September. Local producers and creative craftsmen are given pride of place at this major event. Over the 2 days, musical entertainment, a world-class hazelnut spitting competition, a majorette parade and a large gourmet market are all on offer.

Apple Festival

Mirepoix, capital of the good apple

Since 1997, on the 3rd weekend of October, the Mirepoix en Avant association has been inviting you to the heart of the city of Mirepoix to see its famous apple-clad structures, illustrating a theme in tune with the times. The medieval bastide will be abuzz with activity for 2 days! Apple-pressing demonstrations to supply the association’s refreshment bar, farmers’ market and craft market (jewelry, natural cosmetics) are held in the town, decorated with fruit from the various surrounding orchards. Roasted chestnuts, pies, tarts, croustades and spit-roasted cakes baked on the premises, plus a host of other surprises and events, make for a festive, gourmet autumn weekend!

Flea market and tree market

As the saying goes, every tree takes root on Saint Catherine’s Day! November 11th is the time for everyone to choose trees, shrubs and plants, advised by our region’s top nurserymen and their expertise. Mirepoix’s covered market and covered market hall provide the perfect setting for antique and second-hand dealers! It’s sure to be a great autumn day!
