Château de Lagarde

The little Versailles of the Pyrenees

Ten minutes from Mirepoix, the Château de Lagarde stands on a small hill. Visible from the Camon road, its colossal ruins are fascinating and invite you to imagine their former splendour.

From Aragon to France

Property of the king of Aragon, who had a modest watchtower built in the 11th century, the estate became a possession of the Lévis, lords of the Île de France, wrongdoers in the crusade against the Albigensians.

It was remodelled and enlarged into a fortress with colossal towers and then transformed from the 16th century into a prestigious residence. Finally, under the aegis of Louise de Roquelaure, magnificent formal gardens gave this castle a grandeur unequalled in all the Pyrenees.

Sold to the stone during the Révolution, this site today offers jesticulous ruins. Listed as a historic monument, it has retained its original layout and the foundations of its original fortifications.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

After 12 years of a collective adventure, for administrative reasons, the Association pour la Sauvegarde du Château de Lagarde can no longer provide visits to the castle site.

However, it is maintaining certain events in summer, to be found in the diary.
