Historic festivals

The Mirepoix Historical Festivities have become a not-to-be-missed event, attracting visitors from all over the region, the Cathar Pyrenees and beyond. This grandiose festival plunges the town into a medieval atmosphere, recreating the customs, costumes and trades of yesteryear. The cobbled streets of Mirepoix come alive with parades, shows and historical re-enactments, allowing everyone to relive the glorious days of the knights and troubadours.

A journey

over time

Every year, on the third weekend in July, our charming bastide town of Mirepoix is transformed into a living theatre where history comes to life through shows, parades and entertainment that attract thousands of spectators. Organised by the dynamic Mirepoix Animation Mémoires et Tradition (M.A.M.E.T) association, these festivities have become a not-to-be-missed opportunity to discover and celebrate the rich heritage of Mirepoix.

The Olympic Games

through time

For the 2024 edition, the theme chosen is that of the Olympic Games, with a special feature: sport is highlighted at different periods in history. This choice, advised by our financial partners, allows us to explore the different ways in which ancient societies practised sport, long before the birth of the modern Olympic Games.

This subject offers a fascinating insight into the evolution of sporting practices and their role in societies throughout the ages. Whether you’re a history buff, a sports fan or simply curious, this year’s event promises a captivating immersion in the sporting past of civilisations.

An Organisation

Supported by Volunteers and Local Artists

In 1979, under the impetus of Paul Dardier, the shopkeepers’ association organised the first “Historical Festivals” in Mirepoix. For over 40 years, on the third weekend in July, the medieval bastide has gone back in time to bring its past and history to life.

‘Our team of volunteers – around 20 people active throughout the year, and almost 200 over the three days of the festival – work tirelessly to deliver an exceptional event. Thanks to their dedication and passion, we’re able to create authentic costumes and fascinating sets that immerse visitors in different historical periods’.
