Description

A stone heritage to preserve: a castle, huts.
Discover the exhibition “A Stone Heritage to Preserve: A Castle, Huts,” dedicated to two iconic elements of Roquefixade’s heritage. In 1288, Philip the Bold acquired the lands of Roquefixade, transformed the original castle into a royal fortress, and founded the bastide. Through a scale model, educational panels, videos, and other materials, the exhibition traces the history of this fortress, its current condition, and the challenges of securing and preserving it. The exhibition also highlights the many stone huts identified within the town. As testaments to rural life and traditional craftsmanship, they are presented through models, inventory panels, and photographs that invite visitors to better understand their history and the importance of their preservation.
