STORIES AND LEGENDS FROM THE VILLAGE OF MONTSEGUR

Guided tour

The village of Montségur was founded at the end of the 15th century. Situated in the middle of the mountains, it still retains the vivid traces of a rural, peasant and artisanal life. The memory of the siege of the crusade and the history of the Cathars resurfaced in the 19th century through tales and legends told at evening gatherings.

Stories and legends of Montsegur

Montségur is world-famous for its Cathar history and fortress, but the village at the foot of the mountain is much less well known. In the 19th century, the inhabitants were unaware of the existence of Cathar history, which was only revealed to the public by poets and novelists. This distant past was incorporated into local legends told during fireside evenings. Against this backdrop of rich farming and craft history, villagers also witnessed paranormal phenomena two centuries ago. These stories of ghosts, devils and treasure hidden in a secret cave will be told to you through the narrow streets and little-known places of the village of Montségur. How to get there, where to park the bus? Take the D9 to the campsite parking lot just beyond the village. This tour can be combined with another guided tour on request.
